ART ONE

Gr. 9-12  - 1 period 2 semesters

1 credit

This is a foundations studio art course that concentrates on the elements of design through drawing, painting, and sculpture. Students learn by using a variety of media such as pencil, ink, charcoal, paint, and other materials. Art history and a variety of art making techniques are part of the course. A sketchbook will be used for in class assignments and practice work.

ART TWO

Gr. 10-12 - 1 period - 2 semesters

1 credit

Prerequisites:  Art I

This is a studio course for the serious art student interested in developing their skills and improving their technique. Students will have the freedom to make artistic decisions surrounding the materials they will use and will be expected to participate in techniques workshops for drawing, painting, mixed media and two and three dimensional artwork. Students will participate in individual and class critiques and will be expected to complete sketchbook assignments.

ART 3/4

Gr. 11-12  - 1 period - 2 semesters

1 credit

Prerequisites:  Art II/Art III

This course is intended for highly motivated art students committed to the serious study of art. This portfolio preparatory course promotes critical thinking and the development of art technique, composition, and content/idea. Students will be given the freedom to work in the medium of their choice, but are also encouraged to explore, experiment, and develop their own identifiable style. The guidelines for the course reflect three major themes: Quality, Concentration, and Breadth. This course includes intensive studio work, participation in school & community art shows, class and individual critiques, and will offer an option to submit an AP Art Portfolio in the spring (student’s who choose to complete the AP Portfolio, will be expected to complete summer assignments).

AP Art

Gr. 10-12  - 1 period - 2 semesters

1 credit

Prerequisites:  Art 1, Art II or Graphic Design 1 & 2 or 3D Studio 1 & 2

AP Art and Design is an advanced placement course with college level expectations. In this course you will spend the entire year creating art for a portfolio that you’ll submit to College Board for credit. There is no test in this course. The portfolio is the end goal. A large portion of your portfolio art will be tied together with one unifying investigation of an inquiry that you’ll choose. 

​

As an AP Art and Design student, you’ll develop and apply skills of inquiry and investigation, practice, experimentation, revision, communication, and reflection (both visual and written).
