0817 3D FOUNDATIONS Gr. 9-12 1 period Fall ½ credit

A half-credit foundation course, which introduces students to the fundamental concepts of three-dimensional art. The focus is on design skills, craftsmanship and the introduction of a variety of techniques in three-dimensional art. Students explore additive and subtractive sculptural techniques, designing in the round, and contemporary crafts and ceramics. This hands-on course incorporates various materials, techniques, and art history while utilizing the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. This course introduces the student to traditional and contemporary sculptural techniques. Materials may include clay, cardboard, wire, plaster and mixed media. Students will participate in the three-dimensional art processes from design through completion. The scale of the problems presented will range from small pieces to larger freestanding forms. Students will continue to explore self-expression and creativity to solve design problems that address 3-D form. There will be opportunities for in-depth exploration of various sculptural techniques, media and development of a personal style.

0818 3D FOUNDATIONS STUDIO Gr. 9-12 1 period Spring ½ credit Prerequisite: 3D Foundations This half-credit course is a continuation of the concepts and processes learned in 3D Foundations. Students will expand their skills, techniques and understanding of three-dimensional concepts and materials.
